Today we talk about standards. Part of having standards is communicating those standards with those that you have relationships with, as well as those you coparent with. Initially it may feel like you’re giving more information than what is needed. But we have to remember that people aren’t aware of who we are, what we want, and how we expect to be treated. It’s worth mentioning that we teach people how to treat us.
When we look at it this way, it only seems natural to communicate it. However, communicating information like this can be done effectively and ineffectively. Remember to use your “four ears,” like mentioned in my previous post about Communication (click underlined portion to travel to this blog post! It’s a must read!)
The more honest you are about who you are, what you want, and how you expect to be treated, the more we can all be on the same page. Part of setting up boundaries and expectations is communicating them… otherwise how are others to know about them?
